The 2008 Alamodome Event for the Jaguar Band ~~~ Major plans are now under way for the LBJ Jaguar Band to perform as the featured band at the UIL State AAA - Marching Band Finals in San Antonio's Alamodome. LBJDrum Major Alec G. has been granted his wish made through the "Make A Wish Foundation". That wish was granted by The UIL Music Office- Mr. Richard Floyd, Director. Alec's wish (thanks to the great work of the staff at Make A Wish - central and south Texas branch and Mr. Floyd) was that his beloved Jaguar marching band would be granted the honor of marching it's 2008 show in exhibition at the state contest. The surprise announcement made at the final band concert this past May had everyone thrilled for Alec and the band program. Celebrate Alec's victory over cancer with us and with Alec. Follow us to the Alamodome-2008! As the director, I am looking to acquire for the entire band two (complimentary) meals- lunch and dinner for the 200-band members when we travel to San Antonio on November 3, 2008. If any of you band parents, past band parents or alumni are in a position to assist me in this endeavor, please email me at: DonHaynes2@aol.com. I am certainly open to all ideas on the meal project. Fund drives are also underway for the $6K cost for transportation to get the band to the Alamodome on November 3rd. We now have Paypal buttons on our web site for donors' convenience. You may Go to our web site, and locate the Paypal button of your choice, if you would like to assist us with the bus bill. OR, donations may be made payable to: LBJ BAND BOOSTERS, and mailed to: Don Haynes, Band Director, LBJ High School, 7309 Lazy Creek Dr., Austin, Texas 78724. LBJ Summer Band for Freshmen, Band Leaders, full group: Woodwinds & Brass: please see the summer band calendar for your report date. You may check the Charms calendar, or click the appropriate link on our web home page. (scroll down to find this link). Keep in mind for summer band: -- (1) get a nice size tube of "good sun block" (high ph) for use during summer band (2) consider a physical/heart check-up before beginning summer band, (3) download our LBJ show music from the arranger's web site. If you need that web site sent to you, email Mr. Haynes or Mr. Burks. Your director's email address can be found via our web site, go to "Staff", and you may email any of the directors from there. (4) purchase a water 'igloo' and mark your name on it. (5) purchase a cap that will block the sun from your face. (6) get a good pair of tennis shoes for marching practice; be sure they're broken in pretty well before reporting for summer band. (7) ALWAYS eat a good breakfast before coming to summer band. It's extremely important to take care of your body- inside and out. Keep exercising everyday-- building up to summer band preparation. Thanks to the DCI trip participants & parents--- The DCI show participants had a great time. There were 56 students, directors and parents who made the July 19th trip to San Antonio's Alamodome to see the very exciting DCI shows. A special thanks to the parents who assisted the directors as chaperones on the bus. A special thanks to Mr. Pierels for supplying the bus riders with complimentary water and snacks.
