What a fun, wonderful, busy weekend of band events we’ve had!  There are so many people to thank for all of their hard work in preparation.  At the Band Senior Salute, we enjoyed two “illuminating” slideshows that were assembled with considerable talent and time by Band Booster Vice-President Tonya Stehle, Paul Love-Kretchmer, and Tom Hammond.  For those of you who did not get to attend or would like a copy, we’ll try to get these out on the band website.

Also, be sure to check the band website soon for photos of our trip to San Antonio and Banderas.  Parents or students, if any of you would like to contribute your pictures, please upload them to the following website: http://picasaweb.google.com/davidfriday.austin/BandTrip2008
From here, they can be downloaded and printed and/or placed onto www.lbjband.com.

We voted in our 2008-2009 LBJ Band Boosters Board on Friday night. Congratulations to all of you!   Many thanks to the Nominating Committee members for all the phone calls, emails and behind the scenes work to put together a truly stellar slate for next year: Cathy Baird, Julia Menegay, Louise Miller, Mary Owen, and Penny Sutton.  There are still a few vacancies, if you are willing to share just a little of your precious time and extensive talents.  We are looking for Understudies for the Capital City Marching Festival, a coordinator for the Food Services Committee, and a Chairperson for Macy’s Shop for a Cause.  If you are interested, please contact Mary Owen.

All three of the AISD Bond proposals passed with a favorable vote of 69% or greater! Thank you, LBJ Band family, for your support of our schools, public education, and a new Performing Arts Center.

Finally, let me say that I am grateful to all of you for your support and hard work this year on behalf of the band students and the directors.  It has been an amazing 12 months, and you have made a real difference to our program. You have each supported “The One The Only Jaguar Band” in your own way, and it has taken your many hands and deep caring to make the 2007-08 year fantastic.

As you know, the LBJ Band Boosters exists for the sole purpose of supporting the LBJ Band program, and we hope you have all benefited from the efforts of our committed volunteers. There were two broad goals for this year – stewardship and communications – and through the dedication of  our treasurers (Patty Trowbridge & Jeanne Arbuckle), our website committee (Cris Klotz, Cindy White, Fernando Hernandez, Jimmy Eady), and our Freshman Liaison/Charms chief (Barbara Springer), I hope we have made measurable progress in your eyes.   The time has gone by so quickly that it scarcely seems possible, but I must end this message with my sincere thanks for a memorable and absolutely “Charming” year.  I am so very proud to be affiliated with such a professional and compelling group, and it has been my honor to serve you.

Kate
